Joaquin had pictured a couple of scenarios for their reunion and in some of them he did coolly hold back rather than immediately pull Kevin into a kiss. Reality went with the more common scenarios and so here he was. Arms around Kevin, pulling him in for a kiss.
He was wearing a leather jacket, dark jeans, his hair was freshly washed and so were his clothes. He wanted to have at least some standards, even though he had just broken into the courtyard of a school.
"Are you seriously not going to serve me?" Kevin whined as he leaned over the bar, trying to make sure Joaquin was paying attention. He couldn't get any alcohol here as long as Joaquin was guarding it, he only allowed him coke or various juice based mocktails and it just felt a little unfair. He drank with Betty and at house parties, he could handle himself.
Admittedly, he always freaked out after in case his dad knew but, well, that was part of being a teen.
"I can drink a beer, you know? It's not going to kill me."
"Mh, but there's a lot of carbs in that and you want to keep yourself slim and trim these days, preppy." Joaquin smiled and reached out to pat Kevin's hand, then set the new drink down in front of him. It had a tiny umbrella and everything, he didn't think there was anything to complain about here. He looked into Kevin's eyes, lowering his voice with a bit of a smirk. "You've really gotta move from that spot eventually, you're poison to my tip potential."
"I'll move if you dance with me just once. Come on, I've been here since your shift started and I know you have a break." And, of course, he would want to spend his break with him. Naturally. He knew he was being a tad clingy but after everything, he just wanted to be around Joaquin. Besides, yesterday, he barely got a chance to see him because of his study group and glee practise. He was in need so yeah, he was needy.
"Dance with me and I'll stop ruining all the other boys chances of checking you out. Cause they will. You're so handsome, it's not even fair." Kevin lamented.
"Says the hottest jailbait in the room." Joaquin rolled his eyes, but he finally gave a nod. They hadn't danced in a long time. Not since another life, it almost felt like. He walked over to his colleague and let him know he was taking his break, then he came out from behind the bar so he could take Kevin's hand and walk him onto the dance floor.
"Not sure if that's exactly our song," he commented, although he also wasn't sure what would be their song. He looked into Kevin's eyes and then whispered, seductively, "You're going home after we've danced, you got that test tomorrow."
"But I already studied." Kevin protested with a small pout. He was ready and he would get enough sleep if he stayed a bit longer. Maybe. Hopefully. He didn't like being a good boy on days like this, when he just wanted to be with Joaquin. "I guess it's probably for the best. My curfew is 11 on a school night."
And yes, he had a curfew. Of course he did.
He put his arms around Joaquin and moved along with him, not caring about the song or the beat, he just wanted to be close to him. "Will you miss me when I'm gone?"
"Can I sit with you? Blaine is going to meet me but he's buying something for my birthday." Kurt shrugged and sat down in the chair by Kevin's table in the Lima Bean. He already had his order and he was trying to anticipate how long Blaine might need. It was often difficult to estimate with the love of his life.
He took a sip and looked at Kevin, smiling a little. "You seem a lot happier these days. Got settled finally?"
"Oh, yeah, sure. Sorry, let me move this." Kevin pulled all of his homework aside so it wasn't totally cluttering the table, looking at Kurt with an awkward smile. He kind of knew him, he was helping out with Glee club and honestly, those older glee people were massive oversharers so he felt like he kind of knew them all. "I'm just getting into a better routine. Finding my feet. A new house, new state, new school - it's a big change but it's not so bad."
Especially now he had stakes on Joaquin again and he was determined to make sure he kept them.
At the mention of Blaine, he wondered curiously. Blaine was the bowtie guy that sort of dressed like a mad clown professor - were they dating now or what. "He's your boyfriend. Blaine, I mean. Right?"
"Yes. On and off again since high school but definitely on now." Not yet engaged, although he knew that had to come sooner or later. Blaine had proposal eyes every time he looked at him, it was dangerous. Kurt had to smile when talking about Blaine in spite of that danger. It seemed less terrifying these days, that concept of forever.
"You have a new man in your life too, don't you?" He asked casually, hoping he'd not alarm him. "I saw someone pick you up after school the other day."
Leather jacket and nice hair, he could understand the appeal from the short glimpse.
"No, just a friend! Not a -- no, I don't really have time to date." And if someone like Kurt knew then he could accidentally tell his dad and that was a nightmare. His dad talked to Kurt's dad all the time. They were both into trucks and both had gay sons so apparently that was enough to bond. And Kevin lived in fear of his dad knowing Joaquin was back.
Of course, Kevin was also an awful liar so even now, he was red face and stammering over his words. "And I definitely wouldn't get on his motorbike without a helmet." There. He was a good boy.
"Wow. Just a friend with a motorbike? Pretty cool." Kurt was duly impressed, nodding his head. "I skipped the bad boy phase because all the bad boys I knew were straight and smelled questionably." That was how he remembered it anyway. Maybe he just wasn't into bad boys. Probably not, anyone he had ever been with had been a good boy, really.
"Relax, Kevin. I'm not going to tell anyone about leather jacket boy. No matter whether he is just a friend or more." And he was definitely more than that.
Waiting in front of Kevin's school was never his favourite thing to do. But today was chilly, a bit drizzly on and off and he was tired from working late and also because his mattress was complete shit. It wasn't the best day for his self-esteem or satisfaction with his place in the world and Kevin running late was not helping matters.
Finally he did see him coming out, talking to his friends. Glee club, he recognised that much even from a distance, Kevin had shown him enough pictures. He had no idea why Kevin had to joke around like that with Spencer or whatever that jock's stupid name was. He could only see him from behind but he could imagine all too well how he was looking at Kevin.
Joaquin frowned and looked down, adjusting his jacket a little. Maybe he shouldn't have picked Kevin up today.
Kevin was so glad to be finished, they overran in Glee because of some drama between some random adults that maybe were in the old Glee club, he had no idea. He was walking out with Spencer, discussing how weird those two cheerleading twins were and laughing a little over some shitty old horror references. "They're not quite as scary as the twins from The Shining but they do have their moments. I dread the day I see them standing side by side in the hall, asking with dead eyes if I can sing with them."
He grinned at Spencer, who was laughing too, casually putting an arm around him because it was the Glee club, they were all weirdly close.
Kevin turned his head and his eyes practically lit up. "Oh, my boyfriend is here." The best part of his day. He held his hand up in greeting, smiling at Joaquin and calling out. "I'm coming! Sorry!"
"No problem, preppy," Joaquin said as casually as he could, turning to Kevin and taking a few steps closer, while eyeing up Spencer. Definitely into Kevin, how could he not be? He knew he was gay, a jock, seemingly a bit insecure in his sexuality and probably hard up. He was a teenage boy, that last one was an easy guess.
Why did he still have an arm around Kevin?
Joaquin reached out with one hand, got his hands on the collar of Kevin's polo shirt and then pulled him close so he could kiss him. Deeply and very much in order to stake a claim. He ended the kiss, but kept his hands on Kevin, speaking loudly enough to be heard. "I missed you, papi."
well, that was one yell of a greeting. Kevin didn't mind, he was not going to complain. He kissed back and tried to match the energy. Which was a little hard when he hadn't been ready for it. "Well, hello to you. I missed you too."
Obviously. He always did.
"Is that like 'daddy' in Spanish?" Spencer, asking the most important of questions.
"Uh... kinda?" Kevin answered sheepishly but didn't have the confidence to explain Spanish to anyone. "More like partner." He looked at Joaquin, a little amused. "Right?"
"Right. If romantic, it means that you are my man." He wasn't exactly trying to be subtle here, at least not where Spencer was concerned. He wanted to make it very clear that Kevin was taken. Taken by him. Joaquin wrapped one arm around him now and leaned against him, making sure that Spencer wasn't going to hug him again or anything like that.
