"It's not on you," Kurt declared loftily, sounding a lot more calm than he actually felt. He held a hand out for Blaine's wallet and put that into his inside pocket right away, then he checked whether he'd definitely not forgotten the pictures of Finn that he always had with him, printed out and ready to show people. "Back home, the police have been looking everywhere. My dad, everyone. I went home to try and find him. There's been no trace."
Until now. Possibly. "He started doing drugs. Before he vanished. So the police think that he might have OD'd somewhere. Something like that."
Sebastian had no idea Finn was missing, he just assumed that was normal. Hell, half of that glee club was here, they travelled in packs. He kind of assumed he was here cause his girlfriend was, Rachel or whatever. "Drugs? Shit. I didn't know he was missing or I would have talked more. Or texted you. I just saw him and said hi, nothing bigger than that."
He started to walk back towards the subway stop, assuming Kurt didn't want to waste much time. He was hiding it well but he looked freaked out "I remember what he was wearing and doing, if that helps?"
"Yeah, that's useful. What was he wearing? And what was he doing?" Kurt had not been able to remotely come to terms with the thought of his brother being dead. His brother lost in NYC wasn't a much better thought to adapt to, but at least it gave him a plan of action. It gave him something. He walked down to the subway, following Sebastian who knew where they were going.
"The last time him and I talked, he just wanted to borrow money..." Finn had never borrowed money from him before, not since he'd wanted to buy some presents for Rachel. Then he had paid back promptly.
"He had on just like jeans and a t-shirt. Which is why I remember, it's fucking freezing and I admired his hardiness. He was outside the bar, drumming on a bucket or something, with his hands. I think maybe busking? I don't know. He's good though." Sebastian assumed it had been some kind of Rent method acting or him just spreading the music. He had no idea that this whole thing was going on. Drugs. That was some heavy shit.
"Money for drugs. Yeah, that sucks. What is he into?" Sebastian asked as he got on the subway and sat down, tilting his head to double check the map. "I've known guys into crystal and ketamine. Mostly my more conservative friends, ironically."
"I don't know everything. He didn't exactly leave any receipts or shopping lists. But hard stuff. I think it started out with some E at a party and then spiralled quickly." That was as much as he could put together from talking to - and yelling at - Puck. They really didn't have that much to go on.
Kurt was anxious as he sat next to Sebastian, trying to keep his mind focused. "Finn always liked drumming the best. He should have been a drummer, any band would be lucky."
Just a t-shirt in this weather. He had to be freezing.
"Yeah, I mean, he was nailing it." Sebastian had no idea what to do with Kurt so he pulled out his phone, pretending to check messages because he didn't know how to comfort him or what to say. All he could do was taking him where he had to go and hopefully he could help in that way. "I never knew him. I just photoshopped him into porn."
Sebastian tilted his head back and then smiled tiredly. "Uh, I was such a dick." Wait. "I'm still a dick." Well, that was just him. "But I'm not enough of a dick to be fucking with you about this. I honestly didn't know or I would have said sooner."
"I know you didn't know. I'd have probably punched you by now if I thought you knew." Kurt wasn't sure if he was the punching kind but be definitely felt as if that would be a reason. "I don't like talking about it. About him missing. About him being gone. Because I've no idea how I'm supposed to feel about it."
And he had no idea how to handle it. Finn had always tried to look out for him, for everyone, always tried to be a selfless leader, to not every leave anyone behind. He hadn't been like that the last time they'd talked. Addiction changed people. "I feel like I should call Blaine's brother. Not because he's hot, just because I think he's the person I know with the most experience with drugs. Him and Axel, I guess."
"Blaine's brother is into drugs? Huh. You know, I know I flirt with your boy but his brother... fuck me." He was hot. Like seriously hot. Although now wasn't really the time to pine over Ed so he refrained. He looked up and then pulled himself up. "Okay, it was along this stop. It's near NYU, I went with some guys from my class."
Insufferable assholes who yelled at Finn to shut the fuck up. He hated literally everyone he was studying with. He waited by the front of the subways doors, leaning against the rail. "Maybe they have CCTV or something?"
"I mean, his brother does the rock star lifestyle. All three components. And, yes, he is super hot. When they perform together I question a lot of things." Such as that he really should not be that horny but it was impossible to ignore just how hot the Anderbros really were when put together. Whatever. That was good as a distraction but now he had to focus up. Look for his own brother.
He headed out of the subway doors with Sebastian, frowning. "Maybe it'd be best to ask some of the-- You know. The homeless people that are around. I have pictures of Finn, we can ask if they've seen him."
"We're going to talk to homeless people? Jesus, Kurt, you want to get mugged or something?" He didn't imagine that would go down well. Two twinks with baby faces hitting up homeless guys for the whereabouts of a junkie. "I'm not wussing out but I'm just saying... maybe you should give the tip I gave to the cops. They were looking, right? Well, you have a location and I'll give a witness statement."
As they left the subway stop, Sebastian headed towards the bar, looking around as he walked. There were a lot of homeless people, any one of them could be Finn. "I mean, which ones do we ask?"
"If you don't want to, you can leave. But the bar isn't going to be open this time of day, is it?" And he wasn't wasting any time. Kurt had a picture of Finn ready, he approached an old man who smelled even worse than he looked. But he could deal with that, he had sat next to Brett back in school more often than he'd wanted to.
"Hello, sir. Sorry to bother you." He showed the picture right away. "Have you seen this man? I'm his brother, Kurt. He's called Finn. I'm looking for him."
The guy didn't respond and Sebastian cleared his throat. Jesus, this guy was an experience to be near. "Hello?" Sebastian said louder and nudged the guy with his nice, expensive shoes. "Hey!"
"Fuck off!" The guy yelled and picked up a half empty car of beer by him, tossing it at Kurt. Sebastian pushed both of them back as the guy turned away from them.
"Okay, maybe not that one." Sebastian put both hands on Kurt's shoulders and manually shoved him away. "Let's find one that smell like he pissed himself." Sebastian moved them closer to the bar and then frowned, tilting his head to the side. "He was busking here and --" He looked over at another homeless guy not far away. "He was definitely with a black guy. He's black..." Was that racist? Probably. "Ask him and keep distance."
Kurt straightened his shoulders and nodded his head. All right, he knew this was dangerous. But he had purposefully dressed in all his least expensive clothes with relatively subdued colours and he knew he looked harmless, so unless someone felt their homophobia bubble up, hopefully they'd be all right.
He walked over to the guy Sebastian had pointed out, trying to ask politely. "Excuse me, sir? Could you look at this picture for a second? I'm looking for my brother, Finn. He was here the other night and I want to find him."
The guy frowned and took the picture, looking at it. "Yeah and what would it cost you to know?"
"Seriously?" Sebastian shook his head and then looked at Kurt before back to the guy. "Twenty bucks, we don't even know if you know anything."
"Oh, I remember him. Drummer boy." The homeless guy took the picture from Kurt and then frowned at it more. "Yeah, definitely know him. For thirty bucks."
Sebastian sighed and got his wallet out. "Thirty?"
"Fine. I'll give you thirty bucks once you tell me where my brother is. Where I can find him. We only have thirty." He had no idea how much money Sebastian actually had but it felt smart to set a limit. They were both very out of their element, he realised, maybe he should have called Axel. Whatever. He hadn't had time to think, he had to find Finn. If there was any chance that Finn was alive, he had to find him.
"He told me he's looking for some girl. A funny girl or something. He's making cash to go see her. It's real romantic. He crashes underground." The guy held his hand out, smirking at the rich boys. "Thirty but I'll tell you where exactly if you can magically conjure me fifty."
Sebastian wasn't sure but he turned to Kurt and raised an eyebrow. "Do we have magic?" Cause he had a fifty but he wanted to go by Kurt's lead. He handed his wallet out to Kurt.
"Abracadabra," Kurt said drily, producing the additional twenty out of Sebastian's wallet and assuming that Sebastian knew he'd return the money to him. He held it out for the guy to take and then gave the wallet back to Sebastian, so that he could guard it. And they could outdance the guy or something, should they have to. "Where does he crash? He'd be there now, right?"
Finn was asleep this time of day on a weekend even before he'd discovered drugs. He liked sleeping. And this had to be Finn. Funny Girl, romantic. It was his brother. "Please tell me. He's my brother and I miss him."
"Track 61." The guy took his cash and shoved it into his pocket, eyeing up Sebastian's nice shoes with interest. Rich kids, they had to be. All out here by themselves. Good luck to them. "It's abandoned, you have to go under if you want to find anyone. He's there, he was with the usual crowd so either he lives there or his dealers there."
"Right. Underground." Sebastian was starting to get a bad feeling about that. Surely Kurt wasn't going to go there right now... was he?
"Why you still standing here? I told you all I know. You wanna suck my dick or something, fag?"
Sebastian's eyebrows raised and he realised the guy was talking to him and not Kurt. Why? He didn't look obviously gay, did he? What the fuck? "Your disease riddled cock? As fucking if."
"What a kind offer. But thanks." Kurt smiled a pleasant smile, kind of, grabbed Sebastian by the arm and dragged him along. Honestly felt kind of off-putting to realise that people might be mistaking them for a couple. He wasn't sure how to best navigate the underground but obviously he didn't think they had much time to waste. Still...
Axel was in meetings all day. Damn it. Kurt frowned and looked at Sebastian, trying to think of a solution. "Can you reach Hartley? The two of us just look like different flavour of twink."
"He gave me Blaine's wallet because he's busy today. He's across town at a job interview. I don't know if he'll be free." Sebastian did fire off a text to see if he was free but he assumed not. He didn't really know anyone else but he was feeling a little threatened in his manhood. "Look, we're strong guy-- I'm a strong guy and you're you. If you really want to go, I guess I have your back. Just don't text Blaine for back up. They'll see his bowtie and you're straight up fucked."
As they started to move, Sebastian looked at his phone again. "I'm your back up if you need it. Whatever." He wasn't going to leave Kurt to get his ass kicked by homeless people.
"...you are not stronger than me, Sebastian. I don't know why you'd think you are." Sebastian was in shape, Kurt could see that, but he didn't think that he was any better off than he was. Although they both agreed about how they really shouldn't bring Blaine into this. "I guess I could get Sam to come here. Or Santana, but that might backfire."
Still smarter to hide behind a girl than do this alone. He was walking back down underground, trying to figure out how he could even navigate this. "Just look... inconspicuous, I guess."
It took some navigating and googling to work out where track 61 was and plenty of arguing over the route before they eventually got on the subway. It wasn't far away, just ten minutes and then a five minute walk to the former subway stop.
As they walked towards track 61, using Sebastian's phone for guidance, Sebastian noticed the area was getting worse and worse. More homeless people, the smell was bad and there were dirty needles and used condoms all over the floor. "I think we have to go off road now. It says we're here but I assume it's there."
Sebastian pointed to where the rail was slightly broken and an abandon track-line disappeared into a tunnel.
