"Probably some scumbag pirate, I don't keep my head full of pirate names. Blaine Anderson, what are you doing? Fight him." Sebastian commanded, his voice firm and angry. Blaine looked panicked as he wiggled half heartedly but he was trying to trust Kurt above all else, above reason and logic.
Sebastian moved closer, feeling the pressure start to fall on him. The crew were watching now, the pirates were approaching and if Kurt escaped, Hunter wouldn't hesitate to take his title.
"Last chance, lady face. Either let him go or--" He needed to have control. He had to have control. "Or you're both going overboard."
What Kurt heard, quite suddenly, was music. Music and, most importantly, one voice belting out. It was unmistakably Jesse, Kurt recognised the song and the man singing it, and that could only be a sign of them being ready.
So, quite suddenly, he knew he couldn't hesitate any longer, because Sebastian wouldn't either. "Jump!"
He whispered it urgently to Blaine and then spun them around, making sure that Blaine was with him as he grabbed his arm and jumped over the side of the ship, right into the black sea. He kept a hold of him, just in case he couldn't swim, which often seemed to be the case with these pampered navy men.
The pirate ship was so close by now and Kurt swam with Blaine toward the ladder, hoping they could avoid any and all gunfire.
To distract the ones that might have shot at them, Jesse had grabbed hold of a rope and used it to swing right over, coming to stand on the navy ship's railing. He kept the rope in one hand, clad in black - mostly leather - and looking so confident that one could think he was bullet-proof. "I'm so sorry, that was terrible rude of me. I stopped mid-performance. Should I keep singing?"
He inquired the answer off Sebastian, who was clearly the highest ranked on deck.
Blaine cried out in panic and then wrapped his arms around Kurt, trying not to drown in the water. He yelped as he disappeared into the sea water, it was burning inside of his nose and he coughed weakly, letting Kurt drag him along. He was completely shell shocked, this was not at all what he was picturing for his future. He looked back at his ship, eyes wide.
Sebastian stood on deck while his men scrambled to load the cannons. Looking up at the insane, singing pirate. What the fuck? "No one wants to hear your shrill caterwauling. Say your prayers. If you have them."
Sebastian didn't hesitate. He shot at Jesse this time.
There was some quiver in Sebastian's arm. Not due to hesitation but because he had kept his gun pointed so long when he hadn't wanted to risk hitting Blaine. It meant that Jesse knew to keep still and the bullet missed him.
"Close one," he said, indulgently, "If you are open for it, I do have some notes on your marksmanship."
That was quite the generous offer, he thought. And then he heard music from his ship again, which told him all he needed to know. Kurt had been safely retrieved. "It's a shame I can't stay longer, I feel like we have a bit of something, don't we?"
He talked to Sebastian, not wanting to waste his time on side characters. "The name is Captain Jesse St James. It's an honour to meet me."
"No, it's not. You're a pompous ass and I'm going to take down your ship. Are the canons ready yet?!" Sebastian yelled and he really hoped they could sink that stupid ship. He could swim over, maybe Blaine would survive. If he didn't... it wasn't the end of the world. Sometimes people died.
"I'm Sebastian Smythe and I will end you."
He had to redeem himself, this was all happening on his watch and he wasn't about to get punished for this. He charged ahead and attempted to shove Jesse as hard as he could, hoping the force would be enough to make him drop his stupid rope. He just had to get Jesse either dead or captured to save his own ass.
That was the best chance he was going to get to avoid this getting really messy, so Jesse - as ever - didn't think twice. He got an arm around Sebastian, the other hand on the rope and then he let himself fall back. Holding Sebastian close against himself, they swung off the ship back over to Jesse's own ship while Sebastian's crew yelled in outraged confusion.
Jesse's crew surrounded them the moment that he touched deck and he looked over where Kurt was holding a navy man who'd apparently fainted. Huh. His own navy man was very much awake though, so that took precedence. Jesse kept a hold of Sebastian and yelled to his crew. "Let's get out of here, darlings!"
They cheered and set sail and Jesse pulled out his dagger, to get that against Sebastian's throat while he held him close. "Thank you. You really are an invaluable scene partner."
Sebastian heard the cannons in the distance and felt them soar nearby, making the ship rock violently in the water but nothing hit the boat. Which, given his situation, he appreciated. Though he didn't appreciate how the rocking pushed the knife closer to his throat.
What the hell just happened? He couldn't wrap his head around it. He looked at the pirates and -- Blaine. Fuck, he wasn't conscious. What the hell?
"I'm going to have you killed for this." Sebastian informed Jesse, very aware that his authority was swiftly slipping through his hands. He was surrounded by pirates - he was basically dead. He scowled at Jesse and his body trembled with anger.
"Have me killed? So impersonal. Come on, darling, I can't wait to see what fight you have in you." Jesse was enjoying this a lot, which made sense. He was winning after all. They were moving swiftly, the ship as black as the night surrounding it. He didn't think any navy ship was going to catch up to them.
He ran a hand down Sebastian's body as he kept the knife steady against him, swiping him for any weapons he might have on his person. "Ready the brig, won't you? Kurt, what's with the pretty boy?"
Kurt turned his head while he kept Blaine propped up against his chest, making sure he'd be comfortable. "He freed me." No more need to lie on Blaine's behalf. "He'll stay with me."
"I fucking knew it." Sebastian huffed as he slowly dropped his head back, looking up at the starry sky in irritation. One gay pirate and suddenly, Blaine had thrown his life away and completely ruined his. "You must have a fucking magical dick."
Or whatever Kurt had, he had no idea. "Must be what makes up for your girly face. I swear to God, I'll have that idiot court martial if it's the last thing I do."
And that was about all he could threaten right now, given Jesse had found his knife and that was about all he had on him. He had no idea what happened to his gun. Probably dropped in the fucking ocean. He glared up at Jesse and just waited. He'd get an opening any moment now.
"Quite the mouth on you." Jesse meant that as a compliment, as could be heard in his voice. "Anyway, if you're vouching for that one, I suppose it's only this one in the brig. I'll accompany you personally, darling. I'm a gentleman, after all."
Or not really, but he was capable of dragging Sebastian along and appreciating the feel of him against him. Those uniforms really were of good quality, he could appreciate that. "We have a rendezvous point and time set with your brother's crew, Kurt. Make sure to tell Rachel how heroic I've been."
"Sure," Kurt said drily, although he did know he owed him a proper thank you. It could wait. "Blaine said I'm pretty, for the record," he told Sebastian, because he was petty, "He didn't mention you. Too busy kissing."
"Another ship... you're taking Blaine to another--" Sebastian was dragged up and in the moment he had to take advantage, he did. He used all of his strength and shoved Jesse with his shoulder, snarling at him. With what little distance he had, he attempted to take Blaine from Kurt's clutches. No, he might talk big but he couldn't let Blaine get fucking gangraped by pirates or whatever.
He was a stupid, naive idiot. And besides... Sebastian didn't want to be alone.
"Get off him, you stupid sodomite!" Sebastian kicked Kurt hard. "He's not going with you!"
Initially, Kurt wasn't trying to defend himself, because he was too busy protecting Blaine from potential harm. However, once he was certain Sebastian was only targeting him, he managed to get to his feet and he threw himself at Sebastian, throwing a punch. He wasn't always in the mood to fight but that didn't mean he wasn't a fighter. More than the navy boy kicking at him, he thought. "Yes, I am a sodomite! And I'm proud of it!"
He held his fists up, ready to keep the fight going. Jesse gave a sign, so the crew cheered. For sodomy, apparently. "Blaine will get to do whatever he wants to do. And if he wants to go with me, that's where he'll be."
"Wow." Jesse was impressed. "You are all so dramatic. Relax, man. Kurt won't hurt him. Now, am I going to have to tie you up? Because I'd love to."
"You're going to burn in hell." Sebastian spat out. Literally. Kurt had one hell of a punch and he'd cut into his mouth. He tasted blood but it didn't stop him, he also raised his fists, ready to fight if he had to. "I can take you down, weakling. Come on!"
Only he could not, he wasn't much of a hand to hand fighter. Usually he got other people do it. Now he was having his first fight since public school but he wasn't going to let them win. The pirates jeered him as he went in for another swing but Kurt was fucking slippery and he nearly fell on his ass going at him. He did manage to grab him though, slamming Kurt up against the mast. "Keep your sinful hands off Blaine!"
Blaine, who was so rustled and jolted around, slowly sat himself up to the sound of jeering, yelling and cursing. He blinked and rubbed at his eyes. He knew that voice. "Sebastian?" Wait. "Kurt?!"
"Over there," Jesse pointed out to Blaine, coming to stand near him. He didn't really doubt that Kurt could handle himself in a fight. He had met the man's brother hand to hand and he knew of their father as well.
"Your sodomite lover is doing very well," he assured him.
Kurt leaned against the mast, glaring at Sebastian. "If he wants me to, I'll have my sinful eyes all over him. I'll bugger him so good and proper he won't give a damn what hell we're condemned to as long as we get to be together. He's the most beautiful man I've ever seen and he's mine."
He declared it proudly, then clarified. "If he wants." All right, that took some of the badassness away.
Jesse sighed. Those guys, they always missed full badass.
At least Kurt didn't miss when he took a swing at Sebastian again.
Sebastian staggered back and fell on his ass, slightly dazed from being directly clocked in the head. He groaned in pain and winced as he touched his face, glancing over at Blaine.
Blaine, who sat there, bright red but with large, glowing brown eyes that looked at Kurt like he new some fucking secret of the world that no one else did. Blaine smiled slightly at Kurt and then eyed up the other pirates, unsure and mistrustful. "Sebastian? I'm sorry. It's just--"
"Fuck off!" Sebastian snapped angrily as he staggered himself to his feet and went for Kurt again, only to be tripped by a pirate nearby on his attempt at a rush. The pirates were laughing now, it was pretty funny to watch.
"All right, Kurt, that's enough. Give the boy a break." Jesse raised an arm to calm his c crew own and then he made a decisive move, grabbing Sebastian again and twisting his arms behind his back. He started leading him toward the brig, muttering near him. "Know when you're beat, try again later."
That was what he did with Rachel, these days. At least it was what he told himself.
Kurt made sure that Sebastian was being held securely, then he rushed back over to Blaine and helped him sit up, keeping an arm around him protectively. "I'm sorry. I just-- I had to keep you safe." So he had to get him away from the navy.
Blaine watched Sebastian get dragged away and he kind of hoped he would be okay. He didn't really like Sebastian but he was okay. Not a wholly bad guy, just not a good guy. "No one is going to kill him, right?" Did he just leave one ship to join another with the same problems? He just didn't want anyone hurt. He wanted the violence to stop.
He looked away and then up at Kurt, wondering if Kurt had meant all he said. He wondered if he meant it just as a possessive brag or as a reality. It was kinda hot but now wasn't the time to point that out. Especially not with his wet pants clinging to him.
"No, he won't kill him. I'll make sure of it." Kurt assumed that if any killing was to take place, it would have happened already. Jesse liked playing off an audience too much to be a killer, if he had to analyse it. He reached up to run a hand through Blaine's hair and then realised that he was doing it, so he paused and simply smiled at him. "You're welcome. You saved me first though, remember?"
He'd never forget it. "They said I can use a room on board for now. Do you want to share it with me?"
His face felt hot and he swallowed. "I mean. Just to keep you safe."
"Please. Yes. I want that. If it's okay, it's just... God, I'm terrified. I don't know what possessed me. We kissed and suddenly, it was like--" He trailed off and wondered how to finish it but it was embarrassing and he shook his head. "I just want to stay with you, okay?"
He reached out to Kurt and took his hand, just wanting to make sure he couldn't lose him no matter what.
"Is this your crew? I thought your crew was New Directions? They have a different flag." It was redder, he knew that much. This was more of a greeny vibe.
"No, that's the Bohemian Queen. Jesse St James's ship." Kurt gestured in the direction Jesse had vanished in as he held Blaine's hand and walked with him to the guest quarters. He had been aboard before and it wasn't that difficult to find his way. "It's much faster than my crew's ship, so I assume they made a deal. My brother, Finn, he always thinks he has to save me."
And maybe he had kind of been right this time. Kurt opened the door when they reached it, allowing Blaine to enter first. There was a lantern that gave some light and the room was quite comfortable. Jesse St James's ship was enviable, Kurt knew that. He closed the door and then leaned back against it, looking at Blaine. "I just want to stay with you too. I've never-- I mean, this is not normal for me."
"I mean, I just threw my whole life away." Blaine gestured wildly in amazement at himself, unable to believe he'd do something this wild and daring. "If I go with you, I'm a fugitive. And I'm scared, I'm crazy scared, but I just want to be with you."
Blaine smiled at Kurt and then hurried closer to him, immediately kissing him. Not in a feverish passionate way like their last kiss but sweet and tender. It was really nice, kissing. He hadn't done it before. "You're my first kiss." He kind of wished he hadn't said that with a dorky little laugh but it was true. His first kiss was crazy forbidden with a guy - what was that all about? "It was clearly good, I have no regrets! Well, no, some but I don't want to think about that right now."
"You're my first kiss too," Kurt admitted readily, "I think that is part of why I kissed you, I didn't want to die without ever having kissed. But... I meant it when I said it. You are beautiful. You-- You feel familiar. Like I know you."
He knew he didn't make a lot of sense but he was here, wet clothes and chattering teeth, high on adrenaline and feeling too many things at once. "I-- Look, we are together now. And I'll keep you safe. And... I'm kind of freezing, so I'm trying to think of a way to suggest that we take our clothes off that doesn't sound lewd."
