Blaine awkwardly walked into their dungeon, ducking his head to avoid the high beam. It wasn't a dungeon in any gross, unpleasant way like a pirate ship was. It was quite nice. No windows but they lit candles and Blaine hadn't seen any rats aboard, thanks to their loyal cat - Mr. Puss. Who was currently trying to get Kurt's attention through the bars, meowing insistently.
Blaine came crosser and crouched down, holding his hand out. "Hey, come on, don't bother the ... nice pirate." Well, he didn't seem too scary. He actually looked very well dressed, he wasn't as dirty as most the pirates they got and he hadn't bitten anyone. So much better than the last guy.
Though the pirate's stare was terrifying. "Sorry, he likes attention."
"He can have it. You can't." Kurt wasn't opposed to giving the cat attention. He could use some friendly cat cuddles or, well, whatever the cat was willing to give. It was a cat, after all, might just end up scratching him once he tried to actually pet him.
He sighed, heavily, sitting on the ground because it felt strange to sit on the bed, eyeing up the man who'd come to see him. He didn't look especially intimidating. Handsome, if anything. Obviously that didn't make it better. Possibly made it worse. "I'm busy."
"Oh, uh, well. Okay, so, I was sent again to get the-- the confession and the list of names. If you want to give them." Blaine hated this part of his job but he was really, really hoping that the pirate just gave them the names this time. The last guy, thrashing in the water, slowly drowning. No, Blaine was still horrified. He didn't ever want to see that again. He wasn't really built for this sort of life, he just did it because he had to do it.
He got seasick, he couldn't really swim and pirates kind of freaked him out. Once, it was easy, they were pretty chill about their job. And then Sebastian. And then Hunter.
"I can write for you, if you can't write. And if you can, I can give you the ink." He smiled, hoping to break some of the tension. "I'm Blaine, by the way. Blaine Anderson."
"If I want to confess to what exactly?" Kurt smiled serenely, since that seemed to be a good way to freak this one out. An easy feat but he still took some satisfaction from it. He knew he was likely to die, very soon, he wasn't about to be cooperative along the way. He much preferred making things difficult. "I can write."
He said it in a tone that made it clear he was insulted, considering his options here. "If you want me to write something, I'll need paper too. Not just ink. Blaine Anderson, give me paper and ink. Maybe I'll confess all my horrible crimes."
"Oh, I have paper. Hang on." He pulled a scroll from his pocket and unrolled it, approaching the pirate and then hesitating. He wasn't sure if he should put his hand so close to the enemy, they always were warned not to do it. He waited a few seconds and the cat meowed pointed at him. Coward. Yeah, shut up, he knew.
"Here you go." He smiled and then passed the paper to Kurt, pulling back a tad faster than he maybe should have. Then he offered the ink. "A confession would be really good. Then you'll be offered a chance for rehabilitation." Much better than death.
"Oh, I cannot wait. What a glorious way to be rehabilitated into society. You really are generous." Kurt took the scroll and smoothed it out, then readied the quill and wrote, in quick and beautiful handwriting.
I confess to unapologetically and largely only theoretically indulging in the sin of sodomy. I admit that I'm both better dressed and better looking than any free man under the crown. I understand that the king feels threatened by my greatness but would lower myself to becoming queen, should my country need me.
That done, he folded it up neatly and held it back out to Blaine, raising an eyebrow. He was not holding it any closer than this. "I don't bite."
Blaine took the confession and slowly opened it. There was no list but there was, well, all of that. Blaine blushed a little at the mention of sodomy and then he reached the queen part. And he laughed. He didn't mean to and he immediately looked around to make sure no one saw before he pocketed the confession. "I think it's best we don't share that with the captain. He's been known to shoot the messenger."
Blaine didn't fancy meeting the same fate as John. He wanted to try and get out of this whole thing alive, retire and marry whoever his parents insisted he married. It was easier. "I mean, you say you don't bite but some pirates too. And it can get infected - it's super gross. I've seen it happen."
"Use alcohol on the wound right away. Strong alcohol. Then keep it clean thereafter and you won't get an infection off of a bite." Kurt had certainly had experiences with that. Some of his crew did bite. It was part of a good argument, for some of them. Who were disgusting idiots and whom he missed so fiercely right now. None of them he'd ever give up.
"So, how do you tend to kill pirates then?" Kurt felt he should start to get used to the idea. "It's a shame, I'd have really hoped to at least get kissed once. But I'm leaving a pretty corpse. Make sure of it, won't you?"
"We're not allowed to have alcohol. Only the captain has it." Blaine knew there were strict rules against it being on the deck or anywhere near anyone on duty, even for medical reasons. It was ridiculous but their Captain didn't think an injury was worth any of his precious booze.
Blaine leaned against the door and swallowed hard, hating the topic. "I-- well, they sometimes shoot and push overboard or they just push them overboard and use them for target practise. We didn't used to... it's relatively new to me." Blaine laughed nervously, his body language saying it all. "I think it's a shame too. Such a waste. I mean, I don't have to tell you how pretty you are."
Now that was dangerous talk, the sort of talk that'd get him shot but he couldn't help it. It was a shame.
Kurt's eyebrows went up. Not at the idea of being shot and pushed overboard or at the idea of it happening the other way round. That was about what he had expected. It was watching Blaine talk and then hearing him say that. No man had ever called him pretty before.
"I believe you do have to tell me." Kurt sat up, tilting his head slightly. "It's hardly fair if you don't. I'm dying soon and I should get to hear it first."
"Well, I mean, you are so... I should stop talking. Just -- Just know you are and then forget I said it." Blaine blushed and looked away from Kurt, not ready to get ratted out by an angry, spiteful pirate and get himself done in for buggery. Even if he felt it was more there than most people wanted to admit. Hell, Sebastian had basically propositioned him once in the galley.
Or, at least, he thought so. "Look, you know, if you can swim and they push you overboard without shooting, stay close to the inside of the boat and keep under as much as you can. They get bored fast. Maybe... Maybe you-- will get lucky." It sucked. It really did. "Sorry."
"I won't forget that. Not until I actually die." Which might be very soon, so what did he have to lose? Kurt got to his feet and moved closer to the bars. His heart was beating up to his throat but he knew all too well that he literally had nothing to lose. So he looked into Blaine's eyes and the words came quite naturally. "You're beautiful."
He'd never had the chance to tell a man that before. It had never felt as true as it did now. "You shouldn't be here. You don't belong with them. I can see that."
It was rather obvious, from his entire demeanour. "I'm about to die, so you have to promise me something, Blaine Anderson."
Beautiful? Darn it, his ears were burning with how heated he was getting. He didn't often get called beautiful. Or, well, ever. Handsome once or twice but not really beautiful. Hearing a boy say it to him, it was just so ridiculously special. He felt so flustered as he finally looked into Kurt's blue eyes. God, he was pretty.
Coming closer, he looked into the cage and cocked his head to the side. "I am where I have to be. I want to but... I am where I am."
And his dad would kill him if he quit a job like this. "I-- I guess. I can try to promise. What--What do you want?"
"Go and be happy somewhere. Leave. Life is only worth living when you're at least looking for love." Because clearly this man was a lot more like him than they were going to get a chance to explore, so he could at least try and push him towards freedom. "Nothing is worth living a lie. That's why I'd rather die a true friend, a loyal crewmate and a raging homosexual than live with regret."
He moved forward suddenly, before he had a chance to stop himself by thinking, and he kissed Blaine's lips, his eyes closing. No regrets. He'd not die unkissed either.
Blaine hadn't expected it, to be pulled into a kiss like that. He couldn't stop himself either, he kissed back until the awareness of what he was doing kicked in. He pulled back, unsure but desperately wishing for more. Kurt was so pretty and there was just a moment, the kiss, it was like a spark. There he was. And he just wanted it to be something where they could just be together. The world was unfair. "I can't--"
"Anderson!" Sebastian called his name and Blaine shot back like he was on fire, face red and stiff as a board as the first mate shoved his way in. He paused, looking at Blaine and then Kurt. Huh. "You okay there, Anderson?"
"Seasick, sir." Blaine lied hastily, lowering his head. "I couldn't get a confession. Sorry."
"No worries, killer. Relax." Sebastian dropped from formal to informal, playfully pushing Blaine a little. "Let him hold his tongue, it's more fun that way."
Kurt exhaled slowly when Blaine moved back. Not surprising and he hadn't expected anything more, yet he wished he could. He had never felt like this before, his whole body seemed on fire from that kiss. He pressed his lips together as he moved back a few steps, looking at the man who'd walked in. Apparently ranked higher than Blaine, so clearly those ranks weren't given out based on looks.
His eyes narrowed when the man dropped formality, feeling possessive over Blaine in an entirely irrational way that he did not mind indulging. As he kept telling himself, he was set to die soon. Holding back seemed pointless. "Oh, I didn't hold my tongue. I quite like talking to Mr Anderson. He almost made an honest man out of me."
"Oh yeah, Blaine is a friendly sort. Gets him into all kinds of trouble, doesn't it?" Sebastian said pointedly as he looked at Kurt again and then slowly looked over at Blaine. Why did he feel like he had interrupted something? The energy in here was palpable. Was that filthy pirate after his Blaine? "It's like you're asking for Hunter to knock you overboard with him."
Blaine gulped and shook his head. "I didn't mean to--"
"Relax, I wouldn't let him. You're mine to protect, remember?" Sebastian put an arm around Blaine possessively and used it to turn Blaine towards the door, giving him a gentle shove. "You have duties to attend to."
"Yeah, I know." Blaine looked back at Kurt, just wanting to be close to him and only him.
Blaine had waited until everyone was asleep around him before he slowly hopped out of his hammock and tip-toed to the deck. He took his time, pretended he was peeing off the edge to lose any suspicion and then went quietly and carefully towards the dungeon. He had to see Kurt. Tomorrow, they would execute him and Blaine didn't think he'd be this upset over it but God, he was. That kiss. That fucking kiss. He was losing his mind.
He gently pushed the door open and quietly closed it behind him, turning to Kurt and putting a finger on his lips, to show they needed to be quiet.
It was insane. He was insane. But he had a plan. "Kurt?" Blaine whispered as he approached. "I've come to save you."
Kurt hadn't been asleep. Of course not. He had been awake on this last night on Earth, to think of his family, to ask for whatever powers there might be to take care of his brother when he couldn't and to give his crew some sense when he wasn't there to instil it. That and, involuntarily, guiltily, his mind kept drifting to Blaine, whom he didn't really know and who therefore shouldn't occupy this much space in what little was left of his life.
Even so, when he actually heard Blaine's voice, he was surprised. And concerned. He moved over to the bars, a frown on his face. "Don't be-- Blaine, it's dangerous. You heard your superior before, didn't you? Don't get yourself killed over something-- You know."
Blaine turned around and double checked no one had followed him before he hurried to the cage, fumbling with the lock pick he was holding. "Sebastian, First Mate Smythe, he used to get me to lockpick the captain's quarters when the captain passed out so we could check the maps and he could sneak some booze. And I still have it." Sebastian smiled awkwardly at Kurt, terrified but so damn excited. "I'll play dumb, no one will know. I'll toss the lockpick overboard. But I can't. I can't watch you, or anyone, die."
And he was sick of it, he hadn't been happy here for too long and now they wanted to kill Kurt and he wasn't even uncivilised or cruel. He was just -- well, he had no idea. He didn't know Kurt but he was charming, pretty and had kissed him.
"My brother... he's a pirate. I think. I don't think you're all bad. Right?" Blaine asked, looking at Kurt for confirmation as he started to pick the lock on the cage. "You can't be here and I don't want to be here. I know where the boats are..."
"Only if you come with me," Kurt named his condition, moving a little closer. He wouldn't have thought that someone like Blaine would know what to do with a lockpick but it actually appeared as if he knew what he was doing. So maybe this was happening. Maybe he would escape. "Not all pirates are bad. But all pirates have more freedom than you'll ever find sailing in uniform."
That much he was certain of. "If you don't come with me, Blaine, I won't go. I'd be too worried." And, apparently, he was suggesting that he'd rather be dead than worried. Only slightly dramatic, that.
"I don't know, it's a lot. I just ... I know you can't die. No one should have died before and definitely not now." Blaine kept working his lock-pick until he heard that beautiful click and the door opened. It opened and they no longer had a barrier between them. Blaine didn't know what had gotten into him. He lived his whole life without ever falling in love or losing his mind or risking his own damn life.
And yet as soon as he could, he moved forward and kissed Kurt again. How could he not? It wasn't fair. It was all he could think about. He wrapped his arms around Kurt next, hugging him. "Think of yourself first. I'll be fine either way."
Kurt was already out the door by the time Blaine made his move. He hadn't left to get away, he had gotten out so he could kiss Blaine. Which they were doing now. The kiss deepened and somehow they ended up with Blaine against the wall, still kissing. Kurt managed to tear himself away, realising that his arms were around Blaine, one on his face, the other on his back. He looked at him and shook his head. "You don't know me yet. I don't think of myself first. Especially not now that you exist."
He couldn't imagine leaving him behind. "Come with me. My brother will be close by." He'd never doubted that Finn was coming for him, he'd just assumed he'd come too late.
"Okay, just keep quiet and follow me. We can't draw attention, the night guards are out." Blaine told Kurt as he gestured for him to follow. Opening the door slowly, he looked around the desk and then made his move across it, reaching out to take Kurt's hand so they didn't get lost. He had to make sure Kurt reached that lifeboat, no matter what.
They were so close, almost in the clear, when Blaine heard a gun click and turned around, shoving Kurt behind him. With wide eyes, Blaine looked at Sebastian.
"Where you going, killer?" Sebastian sighed and then raised his gun, firing a shot in the air to alert his fellow crewmates. "Tell me you're being kidnapped or you're so dead."
Blaine might had felt all the blood leave him and his legs got all wobbly but he shook his head. "This is wrong, Sebastian. Please. You know it's wrong!"
Before he had seen the way this man had been around Blaine so it was fairly obvious what he had to do. It wasn't what he wanted to do, but he saw no other choice. Blaine was a slight man, compared to him, even if he might not realise that yet. Kurt had been told before that he looked deceptively slender.
He grabbed a hold of Blaine's wrist and twisted his arm behind his back, holding him close and covering his mouth with his free hand, so Blaine couldn't make this worse on himself. Kurt looked at Sebastian and hoped that he could still get Blaine out of it. He assumed he could, if that man was as into Blaine as he suspected he was. "He's my hostage. You need to get tougher men."
Moving a step back, he pretended to use Blaine as a very ineffective shield. Good deal shorter than him, for one thing.
Blaine genuinely had no idea if this was all real or not, he was lost in a strange haze of panic and fear. Sebastian had a gun, Kurt had him trapped and he tried to plead with either of them but he couldn't get his words out.
Sebastian hesitated for a second, even though he could have just shot Kurt in the head, given the height issue.
"I'm not letting you leave this ship. Either of you. So just -- oh shit." Sebastian saw it in the corner of his eye and turned his head. It was a pirate ship, swiftly approaching them. They'd caught a good wind, from the looks. The watchmen called out and people were moving on deck.
Sebastian didn't stop pointing his gun and moved every step Kurt did, following him. "Let him go and give it up. I'm not letting you leave." And to make that point, Sebastian shot at Kurt's feet, barely missing his toes. "Stop moving!"
Kurt saw Sebastian turning his head and he quickly glanced over as well. Just one look was enough to recognise the Bohemian Queen. Jesse St James sailing after him? He owed Rachel a thank you, it'd seem. He kept on moving, not letting go of Blaine. He had to try and manoeuvre this in the optimal way but the circumstances did not leave much room for tactic.
"Trust me," he whispered by Blaine's ear, hoping he'd believe in him and that he'd never find out how much he was winging this.
"You should let me go," he suggested to Sebastian, "That's Jesse St James's ship. Haven't you heard of him?"
"Probably some scumbag pirate, I don't keep my head full of pirate names. Blaine Anderson, what are you doing? Fight him." Sebastian commanded, his voice firm and angry. Blaine looked panicked as he wiggled half heartedly but he was trying to trust Kurt above all else, above reason and logic.
Sebastian moved closer, feeling the pressure start to fall on him. The crew were watching now, the pirates were approaching and if Kurt escaped, Hunter wouldn't hesitate to take his title.
"Last chance, lady face. Either let him go or--" He needed to have control. He had to have control. "Or you're both going overboard."
What Kurt heard, quite suddenly, was music. Music and, most importantly, one voice belting out. It was unmistakably Jesse, Kurt recognised the song and the man singing it, and that could only be a sign of them being ready.
So, quite suddenly, he knew he couldn't hesitate any longer, because Sebastian wouldn't either. "Jump!"
He whispered it urgently to Blaine and then spun them around, making sure that Blaine was with him as he grabbed his arm and jumped over the side of the ship, right into the black sea. He kept a hold of him, just in case he couldn't swim, which often seemed to be the case with these pampered navy men.
The pirate ship was so close by now and Kurt swam with Blaine toward the ladder, hoping they could avoid any and all gunfire.
To distract the ones that might have shot at them, Jesse had grabbed hold of a rope and used it to swing right over, coming to stand on the navy ship's railing. He kept the rope in one hand, clad in black - mostly leather - and looking so confident that one could think he was bullet-proof. "I'm so sorry, that was terrible rude of me. I stopped mid-performance. Should I keep singing?"
He inquired the answer off Sebastian, who was clearly the highest ranked on deck.
Blaine cried out in panic and then wrapped his arms around Kurt, trying not to drown in the water. He yelped as he disappeared into the sea water, it was burning inside of his nose and he coughed weakly, letting Kurt drag him along. He was completely shell shocked, this was not at all what he was picturing for his future. He looked back at his ship, eyes wide.
Sebastian stood on deck while his men scrambled to load the cannons. Looking up at the insane, singing pirate. What the fuck? "No one wants to hear your shrill caterwauling. Say your prayers. If you have them."
Sebastian didn't hesitate. He shot at Jesse this time.
There was some quiver in Sebastian's arm. Not due to hesitation but because he had kept his gun pointed so long when he hadn't wanted to risk hitting Blaine. It meant that Jesse knew to keep still and the bullet missed him.
"Close one," he said, indulgently, "If you are open for it, I do have some notes on your marksmanship."
That was quite the generous offer, he thought. And then he heard music from his ship again, which told him all he needed to know. Kurt had been safely retrieved. "It's a shame I can't stay longer, I feel like we have a bit of something, don't we?"
He talked to Sebastian, not wanting to waste his time on side characters. "The name is Captain Jesse St James. It's an honour to meet me."
"No, it's not. You're a pompous ass and I'm going to take down your ship. Are the canons ready yet?!" Sebastian yelled and he really hoped they could sink that stupid ship. He could swim over, maybe Blaine would survive. If he didn't... it wasn't the end of the world. Sometimes people died.
"I'm Sebastian Smythe and I will end you."
He had to redeem himself, this was all happening on his watch and he wasn't about to get punished for this. He charged ahead and attempted to shove Jesse as hard as he could, hoping the force would be enough to make him drop his stupid rope. He just had to get Jesse either dead or captured to save his own ass.
That was the best chance he was going to get to avoid this getting really messy, so Jesse - as ever - didn't think twice. He got an arm around Sebastian, the other hand on the rope and then he let himself fall back. Holding Sebastian close against himself, they swung off the ship back over to Jesse's own ship while Sebastian's crew yelled in outraged confusion.
Jesse's crew surrounded them the moment that he touched deck and he looked over where Kurt was holding a navy man who'd apparently fainted. Huh. His own navy man was very much awake though, so that took precedence. Jesse kept a hold of Sebastian and yelled to his crew. "Let's get out of here, darlings!"
They cheered and set sail and Jesse pulled out his dagger, to get that against Sebastian's throat while he held him close. "Thank you. You really are an invaluable scene partner."
Sebastian heard the cannons in the distance and felt them soar nearby, making the ship rock violently in the water but nothing hit the boat. Which, given his situation, he appreciated. Though he didn't appreciate how the rocking pushed the knife closer to his throat.
What the hell just happened? He couldn't wrap his head around it. He looked at the pirates and -- Blaine. Fuck, he wasn't conscious. What the hell?
"I'm going to have you killed for this." Sebastian informed Jesse, very aware that his authority was swiftly slipping through his hands. He was surrounded by pirates - he was basically dead. He scowled at Jesse and his body trembled with anger.
"Have me killed? So impersonal. Come on, darling, I can't wait to see what fight you have in you." Jesse was enjoying this a lot, which made sense. He was winning after all. They were moving swiftly, the ship as black as the night surrounding it. He didn't think any navy ship was going to catch up to them.
He ran a hand down Sebastian's body as he kept the knife steady against him, swiping him for any weapons he might have on his person. "Ready the brig, won't you? Kurt, what's with the pretty boy?"
Kurt turned his head while he kept Blaine propped up against his chest, making sure he'd be comfortable. "He freed me." No more need to lie on Blaine's behalf. "He'll stay with me."
"I fucking knew it." Sebastian huffed as he slowly dropped his head back, looking up at the starry sky in irritation. One gay pirate and suddenly, Blaine had thrown his life away and completely ruined his. "You must have a fucking magical dick."
Or whatever Kurt had, he had no idea. "Must be what makes up for your girly face. I swear to God, I'll have that idiot court martial if it's the last thing I do."
And that was about all he could threaten right now, given Jesse had found his knife and that was about all he had on him. He had no idea what happened to his gun. Probably dropped in the fucking ocean. He glared up at Jesse and just waited. He'd get an opening any moment now.
"Quite the mouth on you." Jesse meant that as a compliment, as could be heard in his voice. "Anyway, if you're vouching for that one, I suppose it's only this one in the brig. I'll accompany you personally, darling. I'm a gentleman, after all."
Or not really, but he was capable of dragging Sebastian along and appreciating the feel of him against him. Those uniforms really were of good quality, he could appreciate that. "We have a rendezvous point and time set with your brother's crew, Kurt. Make sure to tell Rachel how heroic I've been."
"Sure," Kurt said drily, although he did know he owed him a proper thank you. It could wait. "Blaine said I'm pretty, for the record," he told Sebastian, because he was petty, "He didn't mention you. Too busy kissing."
"Another ship... you're taking Blaine to another--" Sebastian was dragged up and in the moment he had to take advantage, he did. He used all of his strength and shoved Jesse with his shoulder, snarling at him. With what little distance he had, he attempted to take Blaine from Kurt's clutches. No, he might talk big but he couldn't let Blaine get fucking gangraped by pirates or whatever.
He was a stupid, naive idiot. And besides... Sebastian didn't want to be alone.
"Get off him, you stupid sodomite!" Sebastian kicked Kurt hard. "He's not going with you!"
Initially, Kurt wasn't trying to defend himself, because he was too busy protecting Blaine from potential harm. However, once he was certain Sebastian was only targeting him, he managed to get to his feet and he threw himself at Sebastian, throwing a punch. He wasn't always in the mood to fight but that didn't mean he wasn't a fighter. More than the navy boy kicking at him, he thought. "Yes, I am a sodomite! And I'm proud of it!"
He held his fists up, ready to keep the fight going. Jesse gave a sign, so the crew cheered. For sodomy, apparently. "Blaine will get to do whatever he wants to do. And if he wants to go with me, that's where he'll be."
"Wow." Jesse was impressed. "You are all so dramatic. Relax, man. Kurt won't hurt him. Now, am I going to have to tie you up? Because I'd love to."
"You're going to burn in hell." Sebastian spat out. Literally. Kurt had one hell of a punch and he'd cut into his mouth. He tasted blood but it didn't stop him, he also raised his fists, ready to fight if he had to. "I can take you down, weakling. Come on!"
Only he could not, he wasn't much of a hand to hand fighter. Usually he got other people do it. Now he was having his first fight since public school but he wasn't going to let them win. The pirates jeered him as he went in for another swing but Kurt was fucking slippery and he nearly fell on his ass going at him. He did manage to grab him though, slamming Kurt up against the mast. "Keep your sinful hands off Blaine!"
Blaine, who was so rustled and jolted around, slowly sat himself up to the sound of jeering, yelling and cursing. He blinked and rubbed at his eyes. He knew that voice. "Sebastian?" Wait. "Kurt?!"
"Over there," Jesse pointed out to Blaine, coming to stand near him. He didn't really doubt that Kurt could handle himself in a fight. He had met the man's brother hand to hand and he knew of their father as well.
"Your sodomite lover is doing very well," he assured him.
Kurt leaned against the mast, glaring at Sebastian. "If he wants me to, I'll have my sinful eyes all over him. I'll bugger him so good and proper he won't give a damn what hell we're condemned to as long as we get to be together. He's the most beautiful man I've ever seen and he's mine."
He declared it proudly, then clarified. "If he wants." All right, that took some of the badassness away.
Jesse sighed. Those guys, they always missed full badass.
At least Kurt didn't miss when he took a swing at Sebastian again.
Sebastian staggered back and fell on his ass, slightly dazed from being directly clocked in the head. He groaned in pain and winced as he touched his face, glancing over at Blaine.
Blaine, who sat there, bright red but with large, glowing brown eyes that looked at Kurt like he new some fucking secret of the world that no one else did. Blaine smiled slightly at Kurt and then eyed up the other pirates, unsure and mistrustful. "Sebastian? I'm sorry. It's just--"
"Fuck off!" Sebastian snapped angrily as he staggered himself to his feet and went for Kurt again, only to be tripped by a pirate nearby on his attempt at a rush. The pirates were laughing now, it was pretty funny to watch.
"All right, Kurt, that's enough. Give the boy a break." Jesse raised an arm to calm his c crew own and then he made a decisive move, grabbing Sebastian again and twisting his arms behind his back. He started leading him toward the brig, muttering near him. "Know when you're beat, try again later."
That was what he did with Rachel, these days. At least it was what he told himself.
Kurt made sure that Sebastian was being held securely, then he rushed back over to Blaine and helped him sit up, keeping an arm around him protectively. "I'm sorry. I just-- I had to keep you safe." So he had to get him away from the navy.
Blaine watched Sebastian get dragged away and he kind of hoped he would be okay. He didn't really like Sebastian but he was okay. Not a wholly bad guy, just not a good guy. "No one is going to kill him, right?" Did he just leave one ship to join another with the same problems? He just didn't want anyone hurt. He wanted the violence to stop.
He looked away and then up at Kurt, wondering if Kurt had meant all he said. He wondered if he meant it just as a possessive brag or as a reality. It was kinda hot but now wasn't the time to point that out. Especially not with his wet pants clinging to him.
"No, he won't kill him. I'll make sure of it." Kurt assumed that if any killing was to take place, it would have happened already. Jesse liked playing off an audience too much to be a killer, if he had to analyse it. He reached up to run a hand through Blaine's hair and then realised that he was doing it, so he paused and simply smiled at him. "You're welcome. You saved me first though, remember?"
He'd never forget it. "They said I can use a room on board for now. Do you want to share it with me?"
His face felt hot and he swallowed. "I mean. Just to keep you safe."
"Please. Yes. I want that. If it's okay, it's just... God, I'm terrified. I don't know what possessed me. We kissed and suddenly, it was like--" He trailed off and wondered how to finish it but it was embarrassing and he shook his head. "I just want to stay with you, okay?"
He reached out to Kurt and took his hand, just wanting to make sure he couldn't lose him no matter what.
"Is this your crew? I thought your crew was New Directions? They have a different flag." It was redder, he knew that much. This was more of a greeny vibe.
"No, that's the Bohemian Queen. Jesse St James's ship." Kurt gestured in the direction Jesse had vanished in as he held Blaine's hand and walked with him to the guest quarters. He had been aboard before and it wasn't that difficult to find his way. "It's much faster than my crew's ship, so I assume they made a deal. My brother, Finn, he always thinks he has to save me."
And maybe he had kind of been right this time. Kurt opened the door when they reached it, allowing Blaine to enter first. There was a lantern that gave some light and the room was quite comfortable. Jesse St James's ship was enviable, Kurt knew that. He closed the door and then leaned back against it, looking at Blaine. "I just want to stay with you too. I've never-- I mean, this is not normal for me."
"I mean, I just threw my whole life away." Blaine gestured wildly in amazement at himself, unable to believe he'd do something this wild and daring. "If I go with you, I'm a fugitive. And I'm scared, I'm crazy scared, but I just want to be with you."
Blaine smiled at Kurt and then hurried closer to him, immediately kissing him. Not in a feverish passionate way like their last kiss but sweet and tender. It was really nice, kissing. He hadn't done it before. "You're my first kiss." He kind of wished he hadn't said that with a dorky little laugh but it was true. His first kiss was crazy forbidden with a guy - what was that all about? "It was clearly good, I have no regrets! Well, no, some but I don't want to think about that right now."
"You're my first kiss too," Kurt admitted readily, "I think that is part of why I kissed you, I didn't want to die without ever having kissed. But... I meant it when I said it. You are beautiful. You-- You feel familiar. Like I know you."
He knew he didn't make a lot of sense but he was here, wet clothes and chattering teeth, high on adrenaline and feeling too many things at once. "I-- Look, we are together now. And I'll keep you safe. And... I'm kind of freezing, so I'm trying to think of a way to suggest that we take our clothes off that doesn't sound lewd."
no subject
Blaine came crosser and crouched down, holding his hand out. "Hey, come on, don't bother the ... nice pirate." Well, he didn't seem too scary. He actually looked very well dressed, he wasn't as dirty as most the pirates they got and he hadn't bitten anyone. So much better than the last guy.
Though the pirate's stare was terrifying. "Sorry, he likes attention."
no subject
He sighed, heavily, sitting on the ground because it felt strange to sit on the bed, eyeing up the man who'd come to see him. He didn't look especially intimidating. Handsome, if anything. Obviously that didn't make it better. Possibly made it worse. "I'm busy."
He was not, obviously. "What do you want?"
no subject
He got seasick, he couldn't really swim and pirates kind of freaked him out. Once, it was easy, they were pretty chill about their job. And then Sebastian. And then Hunter.
"I can write for you, if you can't write. And if you can, I can give you the ink." He smiled, hoping to break some of the tension. "I'm Blaine, by the way. Blaine Anderson."
no subject
He said it in a tone that made it clear he was insulted, considering his options here. "If you want me to write something, I'll need paper too. Not just ink. Blaine Anderson, give me paper and ink. Maybe I'll confess all my horrible crimes."
no subject
"Here you go." He smiled and then passed the paper to Kurt, pulling back a tad faster than he maybe should have. Then he offered the ink. "A confession would be really good. Then you'll be offered a chance for rehabilitation." Much better than death.
no subject
I confess to unapologetically and largely only theoretically indulging in the sin of sodomy. I admit that I'm both better dressed and better looking than any free man under the crown. I understand that the king feels threatened by my greatness but would lower myself to becoming queen, should my country need me.
That done, he folded it up neatly and held it back out to Blaine, raising an eyebrow. He was not holding it any closer than this. "I don't bite."
no subject
Blaine didn't fancy meeting the same fate as John. He wanted to try and get out of this whole thing alive, retire and marry whoever his parents insisted he married. It was easier. "I mean, you say you don't bite but some pirates too. And it can get infected - it's super gross. I've seen it happen."
no subject
"So, how do you tend to kill pirates then?" Kurt felt he should start to get used to the idea. "It's a shame, I'd have really hoped to at least get kissed once. But I'm leaving a pretty corpse. Make sure of it, won't you?"
no subject
Blaine leaned against the door and swallowed hard, hating the topic. "I-- well, they sometimes shoot and push overboard or they just push them overboard and use them for target practise. We didn't used to... it's relatively new to me." Blaine laughed nervously, his body language saying it all. "I think it's a shame too. Such a waste. I mean, I don't have to tell you how pretty you are."
Now that was dangerous talk, the sort of talk that'd get him shot but he couldn't help it. It was a shame.
no subject
"I believe you do have to tell me." Kurt sat up, tilting his head slightly. "It's hardly fair if you don't. I'm dying soon and I should get to hear it first."
no subject
Or, at least, he thought so. "Look, you know, if you can swim and they push you overboard without shooting, stay close to the inside of the boat and keep under as much as you can. They get bored fast. Maybe... Maybe you-- will get lucky." It sucked. It really did. "Sorry."
no subject
He'd never had the chance to tell a man that before. It had never felt as true as it did now. "You shouldn't be here. You don't belong with them. I can see that."
It was rather obvious, from his entire demeanour. "I'm about to die, so you have to promise me something, Blaine Anderson."
no subject
Coming closer, he looked into the cage and cocked his head to the side. "I am where I have to be. I want to but... I am where I am."
And his dad would kill him if he quit a job like this. "I-- I guess. I can try to promise. What--What do you want?"
no subject
He moved forward suddenly, before he had a chance to stop himself by thinking, and he kissed Blaine's lips, his eyes closing. No regrets. He'd not die unkissed either.
no subject
"Anderson!" Sebastian called his name and Blaine shot back like he was on fire, face red and stiff as a board as the first mate shoved his way in. He paused, looking at Blaine and then Kurt. Huh. "You okay there, Anderson?"
"Seasick, sir." Blaine lied hastily, lowering his head. "I couldn't get a confession. Sorry."
"No worries, killer. Relax." Sebastian dropped from formal to informal, playfully pushing Blaine a little. "Let him hold his tongue, it's more fun that way."
no subject
His eyes narrowed when the man dropped formality, feeling possessive over Blaine in an entirely irrational way that he did not mind indulging. As he kept telling himself, he was set to die soon. Holding back seemed pointless. "Oh, I didn't hold my tongue. I quite like talking to Mr Anderson. He almost made an honest man out of me."
no subject
Blaine gulped and shook his head. "I didn't mean to--"
"Relax, I wouldn't let him. You're mine to protect, remember?" Sebastian put an arm around Blaine possessively and used it to turn Blaine towards the door, giving him a gentle shove. "You have duties to attend to."
"Yeah, I know." Blaine looked back at Kurt, just wanting to be close to him and only him.
no subject
He gently pushed the door open and quietly closed it behind him, turning to Kurt and putting a finger on his lips, to show they needed to be quiet.
It was insane. He was insane. But he had a plan. "Kurt?" Blaine whispered as he approached. "I've come to save you."
no subject
Even so, when he actually heard Blaine's voice, he was surprised. And concerned. He moved over to the bars, a frown on his face. "Don't be-- Blaine, it's dangerous. You heard your superior before, didn't you? Don't get yourself killed over something-- You know."
no subject
And he was sick of it, he hadn't been happy here for too long and now they wanted to kill Kurt and he wasn't even uncivilised or cruel. He was just -- well, he had no idea. He didn't know Kurt but he was charming, pretty and had kissed him.
"My brother... he's a pirate. I think. I don't think you're all bad. Right?" Blaine asked, looking at Kurt for confirmation as he started to pick the lock on the cage. "You can't be here and I don't want to be here. I know where the boats are..."
no subject
That much he was certain of. "If you don't come with me, Blaine, I won't go. I'd be too worried." And, apparently, he was suggesting that he'd rather be dead than worried. Only slightly dramatic, that.
no subject
And yet as soon as he could, he moved forward and kissed Kurt again. How could he not? It wasn't fair. It was all he could think about. He wrapped his arms around Kurt next, hugging him. "Think of yourself first. I'll be fine either way."
no subject
He couldn't imagine leaving him behind. "Come with me. My brother will be close by." He'd never doubted that Finn was coming for him, he'd just assumed he'd come too late.
no subject
They were so close, almost in the clear, when Blaine heard a gun click and turned around, shoving Kurt behind him. With wide eyes, Blaine looked at Sebastian.
"Where you going, killer?" Sebastian sighed and then raised his gun, firing a shot in the air to alert his fellow crewmates. "Tell me you're being kidnapped or you're so dead."
Blaine might had felt all the blood leave him and his legs got all wobbly but he shook his head. "This is wrong, Sebastian. Please. You know it's wrong!"
no subject
He grabbed a hold of Blaine's wrist and twisted his arm behind his back, holding him close and covering his mouth with his free hand, so Blaine couldn't make this worse on himself. Kurt looked at Sebastian and hoped that he could still get Blaine out of it. He assumed he could, if that man was as into Blaine as he suspected he was. "He's my hostage. You need to get tougher men."
Moving a step back, he pretended to use Blaine as a very ineffective shield. Good deal shorter than him, for one thing.
no subject
"Stop moving!"
no subject
"Trust me," he whispered by Blaine's ear, hoping he'd believe in him and that he'd never find out how much he was winging this.
"You should let me go," he suggested to Sebastian, "That's Jesse St James's ship. Haven't you heard of him?"
no subject
Sebastian moved closer, feeling the pressure start to fall on him. The crew were watching now, the pirates were approaching and if Kurt escaped, Hunter wouldn't hesitate to take his title.
"Last chance, lady face. Either let him go or--" He needed to have control. He had to have control. "Or you're both going overboard."
no subject
He inquired the answer off Sebastian, who was clearly the highest ranked on deck.
no subject
Sebastian stood on deck while his men scrambled to load the cannons. Looking up at the insane, singing pirate. What the fuck? "No one wants to hear your shrill caterwauling. Say your prayers. If you have them."
Sebastian didn't hesitate. He shot at Jesse this time.
no subject
"Close one," he said, indulgently, "If you are open for it, I do have some notes on your marksmanship."
That was quite the generous offer, he thought. And then he heard music from his ship again, which told him all he needed to know. Kurt had been safely retrieved. "It's a shame I can't stay longer, I feel like we have a bit of something, don't we?"
He talked to Sebastian, not wanting to waste his time on side characters. "The name is Captain Jesse St James. It's an honour to meet me."
no subject
"I'm Sebastian Smythe and I will end you."
He had to redeem himself, this was all happening on his watch and he wasn't about to get punished for this. He charged ahead and attempted to shove Jesse as hard as he could, hoping the force would be enough to make him drop his stupid rope. He just had to get Jesse either dead or captured to save his own ass.
no subject
Jesse's crew surrounded them the moment that he touched deck and he looked over where Kurt was holding a navy man who'd apparently fainted. Huh. His own navy man was very much awake though, so that took precedence. Jesse kept a hold of Sebastian and yelled to his crew. "Let's get out of here, darlings!"
They cheered and set sail and Jesse pulled out his dagger, to get that against Sebastian's throat while he held him close. "Thank you. You really are an invaluable scene partner."
no subject
What the hell just happened? He couldn't wrap his head around it. He looked at the pirates and -- Blaine. Fuck, he wasn't conscious. What the hell?
"I'm going to have you killed for this." Sebastian informed Jesse, very aware that his authority was swiftly slipping through his hands. He was surrounded by pirates - he was basically dead. He scowled at Jesse and his body trembled with anger.
no subject
He ran a hand down Sebastian's body as he kept the knife steady against him, swiping him for any weapons he might have on his person. "Ready the brig, won't you? Kurt, what's with the pretty boy?"
Kurt turned his head while he kept Blaine propped up against his chest, making sure he'd be comfortable. "He freed me." No more need to lie on Blaine's behalf. "He'll stay with me."
no subject
Or whatever Kurt had, he had no idea. "Must be what makes up for your girly face. I swear to God, I'll have that idiot court martial if it's the last thing I do."
And that was about all he could threaten right now, given Jesse had found his knife and that was about all he had on him. He had no idea what happened to his gun. Probably dropped in the fucking ocean. He glared up at Jesse and just waited. He'd get an opening any moment now.
no subject
Or not really, but he was capable of dragging Sebastian along and appreciating the feel of him against him. Those uniforms really were of good quality, he could appreciate that. "We have a rendezvous point and time set with your brother's crew, Kurt. Make sure to tell Rachel how heroic I've been."
"Sure," Kurt said drily, although he did know he owed him a proper thank you. It could wait. "Blaine said I'm pretty, for the record," he told Sebastian, because he was petty, "He didn't mention you. Too busy kissing."
"Ohh, catty. I love it." Jesse was entertained.
no subject
He was a stupid, naive idiot. And besides... Sebastian didn't want to be alone.
"Get off him, you stupid sodomite!" Sebastian kicked Kurt hard. "He's not going with you!"
no subject
He held his fists up, ready to keep the fight going. Jesse gave a sign, so the crew cheered. For sodomy, apparently. "Blaine will get to do whatever he wants to do. And if he wants to go with me, that's where he'll be."
"Wow." Jesse was impressed. "You are all so dramatic. Relax, man. Kurt won't hurt him. Now, am I going to have to tie you up? Because I'd love to."
no subject
"Kurt?!"
no subject
"Your sodomite lover is doing very well," he assured him.
Kurt leaned against the mast, glaring at Sebastian. "If he wants me to, I'll have my sinful eyes all over him. I'll bugger him so good and proper he won't give a damn what hell we're condemned to as long as we get to be together. He's the most beautiful man I've ever seen and he's mine."
He declared it proudly, then clarified. "If he wants." All right, that took some of the badassness away.
Jesse sighed. Those guys, they always missed full badass.
At least Kurt didn't miss when he took a swing at Sebastian again.
no subject
Blaine, who sat there, bright red but with large, glowing brown eyes that looked at Kurt like he new some fucking secret of the world that no one else did. Blaine smiled slightly at Kurt and then eyed up the other pirates, unsure and mistrustful. "Sebastian? I'm sorry. It's just--"
"Fuck off!" Sebastian snapped angrily as he staggered himself to his feet and went for Kurt again, only to be tripped by a pirate nearby on his attempt at a rush. The pirates were laughing now, it was pretty funny to watch.
no subject
That was what he did with Rachel, these days. At least it was what he told himself.
Kurt made sure that Sebastian was being held securely, then he rushed back over to Blaine and helped him sit up, keeping an arm around him protectively. "I'm sorry. I just-- I had to keep you safe." So he had to get him away from the navy.
no subject
He looked away and then up at Kurt, wondering if Kurt had meant all he said. He wondered if he meant it just as a possessive brag or as a reality. It was kinda hot but now wasn't the time to point that out. Especially not with his wet pants clinging to him.
"Thank you. For keeping me safe. You're my hero."
no subject
He'd never forget it. "They said I can use a room on board for now. Do you want to share it with me?"
His face felt hot and he swallowed. "I mean. Just to keep you safe."
no subject
He reached out to Kurt and took his hand, just wanting to make sure he couldn't lose him no matter what.
"Is this your crew? I thought your crew was New Directions? They have a different flag." It was redder, he knew that much. This was more of a greeny vibe.
no subject
And maybe he had kind of been right this time. Kurt opened the door when they reached it, allowing Blaine to enter first. There was a lantern that gave some light and the room was quite comfortable. Jesse St James's ship was enviable, Kurt knew that. He closed the door and then leaned back against it, looking at Blaine. "I just want to stay with you too.
