"Axel works in fashion. Designer." Hartley explained, mostly because people tended to want to know that. He was very successful, after all, especially in the queer community. "A lot of Axel's friends are performers though, so. I don't know. Comic book store sounds a lot less exhausting."
At least less as if being hard of hearing would be as much of an obstacle, anyway. "I think we can go in." He got to his feet, hoping he was interpreting Axel's body language right.
"It's less pressure for sure. Maybe one day I'll think about changing it up." For now, he was very happy with what he was doing. He had a pretty nice gig and a youtube channel where he covered Broadway songs with his puppets. Which, admittedly, was a bit of a relic from his breakdown but even so, it got views.
Getting to his feet, Blaine awkwardly followed after Hartley. "Are you sure it's okay for me to come? I don't want to intrude or weird him out."
"You are too adorable to intrude," Hartley assured him, walking behind Axel and trying to see the nurse's lips so he knew what was being said. The only thing he kind of caught was 'pain medication', so that was not helpful.
They walked into the room and Hartley stepped forward right away, to wrap an arm around Axel. Kurt had definitely gotten a beating. His knuckles looked raw too, which was a sign that he had gotten those hits in himself as well. But still, the bruising and blood on his face was not a reassuring sign.
His eyes blinked open though, looking quite dramatically blue with how pale he was right now, and they focused on Axel. "Where's the dream boy?"
Hartley could not actually make out just what he was saying exactly. Kurt's speech was a little slow and his lip was swollen, making it harder to read.
Axel had to laugh and then swiftly signed the exact sentence to Hartley because he absolutely needed him to know that right away. He had an inkling who he meant. "Dream boy? I mean, you want to be more specific. Are we talking Hollywood dreamboats or obtainable guys in Buswick?"
He had to tease, it was hard to resist. He gestured over at a nervous looking Blaine. "We brought along Blaine. He's the guy you saved."
Blaine awkwardly held up his hand. "Hi. Sorry." He looked like he was in pain.
"Hi~!" That came out gayer than expected, which was saying something. Even Kurt looked a bit startled at that lilt to his own voice. However, the pain medications had kicked in too hard for him to be overly bothered by that. Or by anything. He looked at the dream boy and smiled, somewhat lop-sided on account of the swelling. "Wow. You are so handsome."
The matter of fact way of delivery there was almost as startling as the greeting had been. "Are you okay? I wanted you to be okay."
Hartley couldn't help a smirk at watching that play out, trying to understand as much as possible. He signed to Axel, jokingly. Maybe they should excuse themselves while the meet-cute finished playing out.
"Oh, thank you? You're ... you too." It seemed weird to call Kurt handsome after everything that had happened but it would be a dumb lie if he didn't at least imply it. "I'm okay, just a little bruised up. I'm really sorry you got so badly hurt. Thank you for saving me."
Which he did, he was basically a superhero. He couldn't wait to tell Sam. He also knew if he told Sam, he would not be allowed to go anywhere alone for a while.
"Kurt." Axel gently pulled his attention away from the cute boy. "You're pretty high on pain killers right now so you shouldn't be in pain until we have to leave the magic IV behind and go home."
"Home?" Kurt did hear Axel, yet he was stuck looking at Blaine still. His hair looked interesting, he wanted to feel it. He also wanted to lick his neck, so maybe it was for the best if he stayed further away from him. Was he coming home with him? When were they going? Finally, he turned to Axel, looking concerned. "I don't know what to wear to get with him."
Hartley raised his eyebrows, signing a quick sentence. He wanted to ask the nurses to get him some of this stuff.
"I mean, I usually just go shirtless with tight jeans but we all pick our own destinies." Axel teased as he came closer to where Kurt was sitting and smiled softly at him. "Alas, you're not going home for another day or two. Your dad comes tomorrow and you can just chill, okay?"
Blaine was blushing, embarrassed and yet very flattered. He didn't even know what to say, he was just watching the two of them talk and wondering if he should leave. He didn't want to embarrass the guy! "I can wait outside, if you want."
"I doubt he wants." Axel confessed with a smile, looking back at Kurt. "Am I right?"
Kurt reached out with his hand, holding it out to Blaine quite insistently. "I like looking at you. Please stay."
Maybe he could just stay here with him until his dad came? His dad was coming, that was good. "My dad will like you," he assured Blaine, as if that had been a topic of conversation.
Is your boyfriend waiting for you? "I need to subtly find out if you are single," he told Blaine, saying the wrong part out loud.
For his own amusement and the later embarrassment of Kurt, Hartley had started filming this.
"Of course, I'll stay." He came closer and took Kurt's hand, not sure what was happening but he wasn't really going to deny this man anything. He was his hero and he wanted to make him happpy. And yes, while it was very flattering, he also knew that Kurt was loopy and clearly off his head so he didn't invest too much.
It was nice though, a fun memory from a bad night,
"I'm single. It's quite tragic." Blaine confessed with a small, nervous laugh. "I find it hard to believe you're single."
"It's because I'm a romantic. No one likes that in New York." Bit of a simplified summary of his dating history now, yet Kurt felt it sufficed. Especially as his heart had started doing a weird thing ever since Blaine had taken his hand. Why did it feel so good to hold it? It felt familiar somehow. "I'm sorry they hurt you. That sucks."
It was really showing right now, what a great writer he was. The word choices, pure poetry. "You're safe with me."
It was a promise, in his head it was a vow. His head was also spinning a little, yet he did manage to focus on Blaine's face. "Wow. Your eyes are like... like pictures." Of eyes.
