Sam was very dumb but very strong, a bad combo. Blaine set his phone aside and held tightly onto Sam. He didn't want him to do anything stupid. He whispered to him, practically mouthing it instead of being audible. "Stay low."
There was noise again, it sounded like someone kicked the door. Then they kicked it again. Blaine closed his eyes and prayed they'd just walk away. Maybe it was just another scared student. Maybe it was a shooter.
He looked at Artie, unable to cover himself, and braced himself. If they had to, he knew that him and Sam could get to their friend and protect him if they had to. No one was going to be left alone.
The room was dead silent and the doorhandle was jiggled again. Fuck.
swat team is going in please stay safe baby boy i love you
There was no way anyone was checking their phone right now, yet Kurt texted anyway. And then there was a shot right outside their door. Maybe just to intimidate them? Coax them out?
Sam was praying, his eyes on the door. He could take a shooter down if he had to, if anyone came in. The younger kids were crying and he wanted to help.
He looked over at Mr Schue and Ms Beiste, figuring they might have similar thoughts.
A shot came through, shattering the window in the choir room door. Blaine covered his ears and winced, his heart in his throat. He watched the teachers move for cover, pulling the other students with them so they weren't in the line of fire.
Blaine pulled his hands off his ears and slid himself forward, putting himself in front of Artie. What else did he do? He was Nightbird - Nocturnal Avenger.
He couldn't be a coward. Even if he wanted to be.
Whoever was outside, they were yelling. They knew they were in here but Blaine couldn't process anything, he just looked at the others with shock. They were all about to die, weren't they? He looked at Artie and then Sam. They were dead. It wasn't fair.
Sam looked at Artie and Blaine, blurry eyed for the moment before he blinked it away. He touched Blaine's back briefly for one last contact and then he crawled along the floor to the door as fast as he could. He didn't have a clear plan, he just wanted to use his much bigger body to defend all the others somehow, no matter what.
Then a lot happened at once. Beiste called out his name and tried to hold him back. Outside in the hallway, there were sudden quick steps and an angry yell that sounded suspiciously like Sue Sylvester.
And one more shot rang through and then there was Artie's voice. "Oh God!"
Unsure where to go first, Sam made it the last few steps to the door. He looked through the window and saw Sue on top of someone, saw a gun on the floor. He unlocked the door and dashed outside, grabbing the gun and disarming it as quickly as he could before assisting Sue in pinning down the shooter.
And Mr Schue was by Artie and Blaine, seeing blood and talking. "Who got shot?"
"I don't-- It's Blaine!" Artie sounded horrified and Will was taking off his sweater vest to use it to put pressure on the wound, where he saw blood on Blaine's colourful outfit.
"Stay still, Blaine. I'm here, okay?" Will tried to keep calm, keep all of them calm.
"Everyone, stay down," Beiste instructed. They didn't have an all clear yet, there might be more than one shooter.
Blaine didn't feel it at first, his ears were ringing from the shot and then suddenly it hit him. Hard. He had been shot. He was shot and it hurt. It really, really hurt. "Oh God--" Was he shot? He could hear yelling outside, he could hear Sam and he could feel Artie but otherwise, he was in shock. Very painful shock.
He heard Marley crying and the war cries of Sue, it was keeping him present for sure. Will tried to move him to get to the wound better but Blaine didn't want to, he refused. It hurt way too much. He gripped onto Artie's pant leg to stay grounded.
"It's okay," Artie said, not even sure what else to say, "You're my hero, Blaine."
Will had to force Blaine when he tried to resist, which was an awful thing to do, but he knew he had no choice. He managed, finally, to press his vest down against the wound. "They'll treat you soon, Blaine. You'll be fine, kid, yeah?"
He said it as reassuringly as he could.
Beiste had picked up Blaine's phone, dialling Kurt's number. When she reached him, she spoke clearly, standing in the room. "The shooter is disarmed, Kurt. He's down, neutralised. Tell the police to come in. Tell them we need medical assistance."
Kurt was asking questions, but Beiste knew there was no time. "Do it NOW, Kurt."
Blaine cried out in pain but he knew he was supposed to be quiet in case someone else came. He put a hand to his mouth to try and not draw any attention. He heard Beastie talking to Kurt and he snapped his head to the side. Kurt. Hey, that was his phone. His phone. Oh no, his mom was in the Philippines. His dad was probably not looking. Kurt was in New York. Everyone was too far away and he was dying or something.
"My mom's asleep." Blaine told Will as if it was very important, aware that it wasn't. "She won't see..."
She won't be there with him today. He was alone and it was terrifying. He closed his eyes tight as Will adjusted him slightly. He gritted his teeth, panting through the pain. "I didn't tell Kurt that I miss him. Can he come? I'm scared."
He didn't think he was making sense any more, he was just rambling. Panicked. He was bleeding a lot...
"Kurt will come," Will assured him because it seemed like a nice thing to say and, well. These kids always came to Lima at the drop of a hat, of course they would come now. "You are gonna be okay, Blaine. Just stay with me, kid, stay awake."
Suddenly, there was more movement out in the hallway. SWAT team moving in and taking over for Sue and Sam. Sam rushed to Blaine's side, his eyes wide. He stared at the wound, as much as he could see. Was Blaine dying? "Blaine? Hey, they'll take you to the hospital. I'll bring you so many comics, bud."
In the hallway, Sue and Beiste were trying to rush medical aid towards them.
"You gotta visit me." Blaine insisted as he struggled to keep his eyes open. It hurt a lot and it was hard to not pass out from the pain. He was struggling to stay focused on what was being said to him.
Before he knew it, there was a bunch of people around him and Mr Schue wasn't there any more. He didn't know if that was good or bad, he just knew that someone was ripping his clothes.
He closed his eyes when someone touched the wound again, blacking out from the sudden pressure returning.
